On July 18, 1984, families converged at a local McDonalds in San Ysidro, California for a meal and to let the kids play. Little did they know, their entire world would change over the course of just 77 minutes.

  1. Really enjoy your podcast, so far good presentation and awesome perspectives of true crime cases. This one is close to home for me, I was 16 at the time and remember how disturbing and upsetting that something so tragic and random could occur in everyday US. I appreciate both of you fighting to not make this political because we know that isn’t a solution now days. If auto deaths account for an average 38,000 deaths a year and guns average 36,000; then we clearly do not have real answers since both should not be issued unless the recipient has met better qualifying standards and the local governments did not use them as revenue sources. Do not mean to preach.
When random violence on a mass scale occurs it is a “terrorist” act regardless of legal definition, our last big 3 mass shootings broke all the previous profiles of race, mental health, ideology, wealth, education and family history- a campus, a night club, a hotel/concert venue. The only real common thread is they were planned for maximum effect.
Last thought since now I sound like a rambling idiot- local and state governments should seek and recruit talented high schools for mental health career. If the student graduates with the required degree then they pay their tuition (unless state school-free) and hire them to fill clinics and hospitals or rural travel units. How do we pay for this, alcohol/tobacco/vape tax and auto/gun licenses.
    Continued success on the podcast!

  2. I was 14 years old when this happened and I understood everything that was going on. I was afraid to go to any restaurant for a while because I thought someone would come in and shoot me. It was terrifying and it was the beginning of something horrible. It was a very very sad story to hear. The kids that perished that day just because they wanted McDonalds. Unforgettable event.
